Hat Box Surprise

Thanks, Michelle, for letting me design a birthday cake for your mom.
Here it is, a 'hat box' for a lady..

Brotherly Love

A brother specifically planned every detail of a wedding cake for his elder brother's wedding. How schweet~!

Reminds me of an old song...
He's not heavy, he's my brother~

Again, I was hesitant to make a Bride & Groom cake topper but I relented after much persuasion from Dih Haw. I tried it this time with the bride & groom seated down.

Congrats to Dih Chuan! Hope you like the cake your brother 'made' for you...

Joker's Getting Married

This is sort of my FIRST "Male" customer. Not just any male customer but the groom himself! Salute to the bride for allowing and trusting the fiancĂ© to choose a wedding cake and deciding on most details independantly. Either that, or, she had drummed all the details into his head before sending him to run errands. =)  Many girls would wish their fiancĂ© can be so involved in wedding planning.
Sing Huat is known to be a 'Joker' amongst his friends, mainly because he can crack a joke at every thing he sees and at anytime of the day. Also, the big wide smile is practically a fixed feature on his face and I hardly see him going around without a big smile.

For his wedding cake, he chose "Apple Green" and "White Calla Lilies".
The final product. My first attempt with "apple green" color.

Using damask technique, I covered the surface with icing.

Apple green wedding cake, with apple green balloons and apple green pomanders~
Well done, Groom!

Congrats to Sing Huat and Cheryl~
May you both always be as cheerful, sweet and happy as the color apple green!

Bejewelled Wedding

Thanks to word of mouth and Facebook, an acquiantance from far away Canada saw my creations and wanted one for her wedding! Well of course I didnt have to deliver the cake all the way to Canada, but she will be back in Sitiawan to host her wedding ceremony.

Au Yong Li Ping's wedding was held on 20.11.2011, a very very auspicious date! In fact, this is one of the 2 wedding cakes that I had to make for this very date. Li Ping's wedding is a luncheon and the other one is a dinner but it didn't make much of a difference as both cakes had to be ready promptly. It was a challenge indeed and I'm glad I managed it well :-)

I was delighted when Li Ping told me I'm free to design her wedding cake! She gave me a few details such as cake flavor, size, and the rest is all up to me! BIG SMILE.

I decided to try something new and pretty unique to even the cake industry in Malaysia.  I ordered silicon molds from the US and started making buttons, brooches, jewels, and gem stones.

The main cake was styled with a big red rose and beaded with vintage brooches and gem stones.  Cupcakes were adorned with pearls and red baby roses.

It is not the typical wedding cake that you can expect decorated with just flowers. I'm not sure if many can appreciate the uniqueness of this creation but I'm glad I tried something new.

This is what i call "Classy"...

When Christy told me her friend wants a wedding cake, I started sweating.  When I found out who her friend was, I couldn't sleep for days. Bangsar Babe is coming to town and she wants to meet me!  I'm an amateur sugar artist and I don't even have a name card!
It was during Chinese New Year 2011, I got dressed while reminding hubby that he has to babysit our little boy so I can go out and meet Sue Lynn, popularly known as the Bangsar Babe, the food blogger who has appearances in the media.

What if I cannot meet her expectation? She must have high expectation since she's a food blogger. What if she doesn't like my designs? What if she wants something complicated and I don't know how to do it? Oh no, I can't even speak proper English its embarrassing!  Hundreds of questions running through my head as I was walking towards Christy where she introduced me to Sue Lynn.

What a relief after meeting her in person.... A beauty pageant but yet so down to earth.  We chatted a lil and she tells me her dad's actually from Sitiawan too, small world~ Sue Lynn wants a cake for her ROM ceremony and it's in October which is good news, as it means there's alot of time for me to practice. To my surprise, instead of a tall cake with 100 flowers on it, all Sue Lynn wants was a small wedding cake with the simplest design, but classy of course. Of all the flowers I showed her, she loves my anemone flower. However, the most difficult request was to have a "bride & groom" cake topper.

My specialty is in making sugar flowers and I have zero idea on making human figurines... *cold sweat* again.. Anyway, to cut the long story short, I gave it a try and here it is, after 9 months... The final product...

The ceremony was held in KL. It was late at night and we were on our way to KL, carrying an extremely fragile and delicate cake on my lap and dozing off as hubby was driving. Suddenly, a wild boar appeared out of no where( i mean seriously!) and hubby had to slam the brakes. I almost got an heart attack, not because of the shock but because I was so afraid something bad happened to the cake!! I guarded the cake with my life! *wink*

Sue Lynn ;-)

The ceremony was oh-so beautiful.... CLASSY is all I can say for the decorations and layout.

Sue Lynn looked absolutely stunning in a gold/champagne dress and I can just see how much Wei Jien adores her at the way he looked at her...

Guess who I met at the ceremony?! Sue Lynn kept telling me that I'll be meeting some very special people at her ceremony and she wasn't going to tell me who it was.She made sure I got my namecards done (finally). True enough, they were very special people indeed! It was Allan and Nigel, from Just Heavenly!!=)) They actually liked and complimented my cake!  They were so friendly and generous in giving me a few tips and advise about the cake making business. Am so grateful!

This is me, giddy with happiness..

Thank you, Christy... You know why...And thank you Sue Lynn for giving me the most memorable experience i  had for the year of 2011...

Monkey Boy's 2nd Birthday Bash

In a blink of an eye, my precious little man has turned 2. Like every other boy, he loves balls, cars, monsters and loves riding his tricycle outdoor. He's an active little boy and demands for attention throughout his waking hours. This means that I cannot work on my sugar flowers until he is asleep otherwise sugar flowers will turn into pancakes in a second as he loves playing with my rolling pin. Hubby and I bought him a Play Doh cooking set and thought both of us can sculp together, but noooo, he prefers real fondant over Play Doh! Masterchef Junior in the making?? haha..

But he really is one of the cheekiest little boy you can find. So I thought having a monkey themed birthday party would be cute.
I had so much fun planning and making everything according to the theme. And of course, the monkey boy has got to have a monkey cake!

It was a poolside party and many kids were invited. I prepared a variety of finger food and even made a Pinata in the shape of a 'coconut' for the kids!

Squid balls and sausages were labeled as "Monkey's Eyeballs & Tongues". Cake Pops were "Monkey's Doo Doo". There were also "Pee-Nut & Banananana Cupcakes" and an Ice Cream Bar. As for beverage, I served chilled coconut juice aka "Monkey Juice".

Kids went home happy with a Monkey Face Cookie and a monkey-bucket full of candies each. Most importantly, my sister did not drop the birthday cake this time.

Ruffles

I was browsing through The Caketress and came upon this beautiful piece of art. It reminded me of a book my mom used to have that teaches how to make many different type of flowers using ribbons. My sister and I tried making them but we didn't have the right kind of ribbons so it wasn't easy! It's kinda like embroidery but using ribbons instead of yarns.

Anyway, here it is, my first attempt at "Ribbon Flowers".. This is one of my personal favourite!

This was made for a wedding of my hubby's cousin. Hope they love it as much as me.

Baby Andrea Turns 2

It's always fun to try out new stuff. With this cake, the wordings were made to look like as if it is made of silk ribbons. First attempt.

Love From Afar

Many don't 'celebrate' Valentine's Day anymore, including myself (and especially my husband).. Why? Because we don't want to be one of those people who pay an exhorbitant amount of money for a bouquet of roses just because someone says that this is the day to show your love to someone.

Nevertheless, I made some cookies, heart shaped, just to join in the 'fun'. After baking and decorating them, I posted some pictures on Facebook. To my surprise, many contacted me to place orders! And to top it off, a friend, Eda Madsen ordered 100 hundred packets of it! No, she doesn't have 100 boyfriends. Eda wants us to give each cookie to special kids, to remind them that they are loved too~

Though not much time left to make more cookies, I simply cannot turn down such a noble request. Mom and I did  'overtime' to get the cookies ready and being our first time, we went around asking where can we donate the cookies to. Finally, we've decided to distribute to disabled children from PKOC.  The look on the children's faces? Priceless..

Eda made this day very special to many people....
