Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

It was a fantastic year of cake orders in 2011 and 2012 seems just as exciting!

After a whole year of taking in orders and cake decorating, I realized my customers and potential customers tend to post the same few questions. So I thought I'd better just provide you with more information and details upfront.

Here goes...

1. Where are you based?
Cakes are made and decorated from home, in a small town called Sitiawan, in Perak state in Malaysia.
2. Does Piece of Cake take in orders from outside Sitiawan?
Yes I do! I have decorated cakes for many weddings in the Klang Valley.

3. Do you provide cake delivery service?
Delivery can be arranged on a case to case basis and it depends on the location and date.
For orders in Sitiawan itself, I can deliver or you may self-collect at your convenience. Note that I would prefer to fix a time for collection as I may not be around the whole day.

For orders outside Sitiawan (ie. Klang Valley), delivery may cost an additional of RM200 (estimation and it also depends on distance) as it involves me driving down to deliver the cake personally.

You can also arrange for a friend or relative to collect the cake from me to be delivered it to you.

4. How much do you charge for a cake?
I do not usually apply minimum charges for customized cake as I cater specifically to your requirements and budget. However, charges will differ for different occasions, for example, a 2-tier wedding cake can start from RM450 and a themed birthday cake from RM150.

Price will be quoted based on finalized details such as size, designs, flavours, packaging, etc. Once the price is finalized, extra requirements may incur additional cost.

5. Wedding cakes seem to have a reputation for being expensive. I'm afraid I do not have a big budget for a wedding cake.
Many have this misconception. But I can assure you that a beautiful cake may not necessarily be expensive, nor does it have to be very big. It really depends on the complexity of the design. A simple cake can be very elegant and classy and yet affordable.

I feel that customers don't need to be be shy in revealing their budget. Give me a price range and I will work within your budget for a fabulous cake!

6. What details do you need in order to quote?
i.  Required date (the most important detail)
ii. Occasion, ie. Wedding, Birthday, Bridal Shower, etc.
iii. Theme, ie. Color, Vintage/Classic/Chic/Contemporary/etc, Choice of Flowers.. and so on..
iv. Size, ie. Number of tiers
v. With or without Cupcakes

Notes:
a. Cupcakes are quoted individually.  It is not on a "the more the cheaper" basis.
b. If you do not have a particular design/theme in mind, all the better if you'll allow me to design for you! Otherwise, do choose a sample from my blog or photo album (Facebook Fanpage) so I can have an idea of what you like.
c. Flowers and figurines are prepared days and weeks before the event date. Due to that, changes in design are not encouraged once the order had been confirmed. Hope you understand.

7. What flavours of cakes do you have?
I have here orange yoghurt pound cake, butter cake, banana cake, carrot cake, and chocolate prune. For weddings, I would recommend the traditional fruit cake (rum infused) because it can be well preserved if kept in the freezer.

Considering the weather in our country (summer everyday!), we are unable to accommodate buttercream fillings of various flavours. Furthermore, we have to put into consideratioon that the cakes have to be solid enough to withstand the weight of the decorations. So not every type of cake is suitable.
8. How early do I need to place an order?
As early as possible! Let me know your required date and I'll check my availability. But I would need at least 1 month's notice prior to confirmation.

Thank you for your understanding...

If you have any questions about my products and services, I would love to hear from you! Send me an email at tjcyee@hotmail.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can. But I must admit and apologize in advance, there will be delays as I can only check my emails when my little man has gone to bed. You can also drop me a "comment" on Jo's Piece of Cake's Facebook Fanpage. I check my facebook more often ;-)
